Community Outreach
Our Outreach Programs
Our members are active in community outreach programs like Therapy Dog, R.E.A.D. Airport companions and more.
Therapy Dog Program
We participate in therapy programs at area hospitals in Fort Walton Beach and Niceville. Dogs and their handlers are invited to visit in-patient residents to comfort and cheer them. We also visit nursing homes to entertain residents with demonstrations of dog sports/talents.
R.E.A.D. Program
Our members and their dogs are active in the Reading Education Assistance Dogs® (R.E.A.D.) program. The R.E.A.D. program utilizes therapy animals to help kids improve their reading and communication skills and also teaches them to love books and reading.
R.E.A.D. companions are therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team, going to schools, libraries and many other settings as reading companions for children. Children read to dogs to enhance the child's classroom reading program.
Airport Companions
Dogs volunteer with their owner/handlers and visit the local airports to calm nervous travelers.
